New schools opening in fall 2012!
It's an exciting time for the Wichita Public Schools! In August 2012, five brand-new school buildings will welcome students into their state-of-the-art facilities. The new Northeast Magnet High School, the new Isely Traditional Magnet Elementary, the new Lewis/South Elementary, Ortiz Elementary and the new southeast K-8 school are wrapping up construction and district facilities crews will prepare them over the summer to be ready for students on the first day of school.

Below are some details regarding the newest schools in our district.
Northeast Magnet High School

With the boundary changes adopted March 2012, the Northeast Magnet High School program will move to the new facility in August 2012.
The new Northeast Magnet is divided into three main areas: a two-story academic area, a fine arts area and a PE/athletic area. The school features a secure main entrance, a 900-seat auditorium and fine arts suite, a library with seating for 100 students, career and technical education classrooms, a 1,800-seat gymnasium with a walking track, a swimming pool and a practice gym that will also be the school's FEMA storm shelter.

Isely Traditional Magnet Elementary

As part of the school boundary changes adopted March 2012, Isely Traditional Magnet Elementary School will move to the new facility in August 2012.

The new school featured three classroom wings, a media center/library, 800-seat auditorium and music suites, and a gymnasium that will serve as the safe room/storm shelter.

Enders Elementary (formerly Lewis)

Enders Elementary is a new school under construction in south Wichita. The neighborhood magnet will serve Lewis and Emerson magnet students and also serve as a neighborhood school. The new school features a library, group study areas, an art room with an outdoor patio, separate cafeteria and multipurpose room, which is also the school’s storm shelter.

Ortiz Elementary

Ortiz Elementary School in north Wichita will accommodate 450 kindergarten – 5th grade students. The 62,000 square foot school will feature three classroom wings, have a large library, computer lab, two music rooms, an art room and a multipurpose room designed as a FEMA storm shelter. Ortiz Elementary contains many environmentally friendly features.

Christa McAuliffe Academy

A new state-of-the-art K-8 school is being constructed in the southeast area of the district. Christa McAuliffe Academy features three classroom wings, a media center/library, 800-seat auditorium and music suites, technology labs and a gymnasium that serves as the safe room storm shelter. The building is designed so that as demand warrants in the future, a second gym and classroom expansion can be constructed on the site.
